Tanks
Ag drone tanks run roughly 16โ70 L (4โ18 gal). Bigger tank = fewer refills but heavier flight, shorter duration, and more slosh (which fights the flight controller on turns โ baffled tanks help). Match tank to acreage as covered in choosing a spray drone. Always rinse thoroughly: a 10-gallon system concentrates residue far more than a 1,000-gallon rig.
Pumps and flow control
- Diaphragm pumps dominate โ self-priming, handle debris, deliver steady pressure.
- Flow meters close the loop: the controller adjusts pump output to hold your target rate as ground speed varies. If your flow meter fouls, your rate drifts โ clean it.
- Filters/screens at tank outlet and before atomizers: check every fill. Most "pump problems" are screen problems.
Atomizers vs nozzles
Most ag drones use centrifugal atomizers (spinning disc; droplet size set by RPM, independent of flow). Some use pressure nozzles (size set by tip + pressure; air-induction tips for drift reduction). Full tradeoffs in droplet size & nozzles.
Dry spreader kits
Swap the tank for a hopper + spinner and the same airframe broadcasts cover crop seed, dry fertilizer, or granular products. Spread width is wider but less uniform than liquid โ calibrate with catch pans across the swath, and expect to fly narrower passes than the marketing number. End-of-day system care
- Flush with clean water + tank cleaner appropriate to the chemistry.
- Pull and rinse all screens; inspect atomizer discs for wear/buildup.
- Run clean water through until it sprays clear; drain fully in freezing weather.
- Log anything replaced in your maintenance log.
